Proposal Crtiques
Proposal 1:
Strengths: The NY Times proposal provided a lot of details regarding their topic while introducing the problem. The proposal also provides a solution that will help solve the problem.
Weaknesses: The proposal does not really include a rationale for choosing this topic
Proposal 2:
Strengths: Introduces the problem, explains why it is important and gives a solution
Weaknesses: This proposal does not really relate to the audience? Does not address and shut down other solutions
Proposal 3:
Strengths: Introduces the solution and uses lots of references. Shuts down opponents
Weaknesses: Is not really audience oriented. Does not really argue for his proposed solution well, states other solutions a bit too much.

Speech proposal
My speech topic involves the fraternities and sororities at the University of Iowa. As of right now, a lot of the fraternities are suspended for violating school policies. I believe that policies are too. Strict and need to be changed even though my fraternity Delta Sigma Phi is not suspended. Greek life is a huge part of Iowa City because most fraternities are heavily involved in volunteering, fundraising and other things that help better the community. Without Greek life, the city would lose a valuable part of its community. The strict policies created by the University are destroying and hurting all of Greek life. The change in policy would require the policies set by the university to be less harmful to the fraternities. The following sources discuss the recent Greek life events https://www.thegazette.com/subject/news/education/university-of-iowa-suspends-nine-frats-accused-of-alcohol-policy-violations-20181010

Reflection on comments
The comments I wrote on my peer's papers could also apply to my paper for various reasons. For example, I talked about grammar on both my peer's papers. That could totally apply to my paper because I had loads of errors in terms of grammar. In addition to this, I talked about ways people could improve their gap. This can also be applied to my paper because my abstract did not discuss the gap at all. I need to fix some of my citations, my gap, and introduction. I could also do way better in terms of synthesis of the articles.

Introduction
Homeschooling laws vary widely from
state to state. Homeschooling has always been a part of the United States
and many other countries in the world. But what causes some students to be
homeschooled? How does being homeschooled affect the social development of
those being homeschooled?
Although it is commonly believed
that homeschooling can have negative effects on a child’s social development,
many studies have found that homeschooling does not affect social development
to a great degree. For example, researcher Brian Ray found that the
homeschooled children in a 1997 study he conducted were involved in an average
of 5.2 activities each week. But, social isolation does exist as Ray found that
13% of homeschooled children in his sample do not play with people outside
their family.
The question of whether or not, homeschooling can negatively affect social skills is still loosely up for debate, as there is very few or little to no correlation between home schooled education and a lack of social skills.

Methods
Participants:
The participants of this
survey were college students from colleges such as the University of Iowa. Most
of these students were aged 18-21 years of age and specialized in a variety of
majors that range from business to engineering.
Methods:
This was a five-question online survey on google
forms. The questions given were based on the student’s opinion of homeschooling
in the United States. The questions were yes or no, mark all that apply, open-ended
and based on a given scale. The survey was given anonymously even though the
survey was seeking truthful answers.
Data Analysis:
The
participants’ answers were grouped based on the response to the questions. Knowledge
of homeschooling also played an important factor within grouping of the
responses. Graphs and tables can be made to determine any relationships between
homeschooling and social skills.

HOW IS IMRAD DIFFERENT PLUS TOPIC PROPOSAL.
The IMRAD report is different from an argument based research paper I have done in the past for many reasons. One reason in which it is different is that the IMRaD report is split up in a very unique way. Up until now, my research papers followed a very general and not really specific approach. Whereas, the development and design of the IMRaD are very specific.
The IMRaD paper is also different because it dives further into physically researching a topic, within the IMRaD report, I am not simply finding data online for my argument but I am doing the research myself.
I'm writing on the topic of special education, this should seem interesting since i researched it before.
Research q 1) How your experience with special education influenced your success in the future
Research q 2) Did you take any special ed courses in high school?
I'm going to interview people and ask them whether or not they were in special education, then I am going to ask my question regarding how special education influenced their success in college or in the future?

Analysis and Outline
Commercial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91LQWQEyD8w
Analysis:
Outline
Outline
Intro: The widely known
"Somebody's Watching Me" theme is played to two scenes; the first one
features a basketball player, and the second one a man at a diner.
Hook: do you remember all the different and funny geico commercials
from the past? They approach selling insurance in a very unique way. In the past they have includedcavemen, a lizard and a catchy song. The song is the most familiar aspect of their
past commercials for me.
Thesis: The following commercial from 2009 has a specific purpose
and is quite effective. The purpose is to use humor to sell insurance using
humor. The commerical is somewhat effective in promoting their ideas.
Purpose: the commercial is trying to use comedy to advertise their insurance company.
Transition 1
the commercial is aimed
towards promoting GEICO's insurance company. It is quite clearly an advertisement. I noticed towards
the end that they were trying to sell something to me. The familiarity Of the commercial
made it clear that they are trying to sell insurance.
In one scene, a dude is shooting a basketball and the music starts playing from a wad of cash.
In one scene, a dude is shooting a basketball and the music starts playing from a wad of cash.
Effectiveness: the commercial is effective in maintaiining the audiences attention, and promoting their idea.
Transition 2
The commercial is somewhat
effective at selling insurance. I noticed a few things. For example the music
kept me engaged within the commercial and would make me less likely to change
the channel. It keeps me engaged which is quite effective. They also make it
quite clear what they are trying to sell to me. The comedy of the ad can almost distract the audience from what they are trying to sell. I thought the two seperate scenes were really effective together within this commercial.
Conclussion:
Revision:Conclussion:
My first revision is actually the commercial I used. I changed the commercial so it within five years. In addition that it is significantly longer and allows me to add more details to my speech.

Intro:
What do
most people think of when they here the company GEICO. It is almost the green
lizard from a lot of their previous commercials. However, this commercial is
different from the stereotypical “oh there’s a talking lizard to explain
insurance to us.”
The
one minute Geico
commercial from 2018 has a specific purpose in which the Insurance company
tries to use comedy and a relevant or recent event to promote their company.
In a sense, the commercial isn’t intended to inform us of their policies but
rather to keep their company fresh in our minds. The companies commercial does
this with some effectiveness, as it certainly stuck in my mind.
Purpose
The GEICO
commercial was
created with a specific purpose in mind. The purpose of
the commercial was to use that one overrated Stefon Diggs catch from the Playoffs last year.
The
commercial starts out with the Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon
Diggs in a sketch. Within this sketch he is trying to make a bowl of cereal. The
cereal sticks to his hands, and is impossible to poor because everything sticks
to Stefon
Diggs hands. In the end he gets it done, overall the commercial is referencing
how he never drops a ball and his game winning touch down against the saints. I
personally believe he is overrated.
Also,
it is important to note that the only words said that truly advertised the insurance company was maybe five seconds at
the end of the commercial where a narrator says ”believe it, geico
could save you 15% or more on car insurance”. That alone makes it quite clear,
that purpose of the commercial is not to inform the audience (people who are
watching the tv)
of their policies. But rather the purpose, is to have the company just
stick in the minds of the audience.
The comedic aspect
of the commercial also hints to the purpose being an attention grabber. No serious
commercial is going to include this sketch. Nobody thinks, lets make an
overrated football player the star of our insurance commercial.
Effectiveness
The
commercial is effective to a certain degree. The commercial is really effective
at maintaining the audiences or viewers attention. The comedic
aspect of the commercial helps make the commercial effective in terms of their
purpose.
For
example, the comedy truly adds to the commercial. In particular, the Stefon Diggs
commercial it was funny
and that can
keep people from changing the channel or just immediately forgetting it right
after.
What I thought that was not really effective in particular
was that the commercial had no words within it, Nobody really talked
until the very end of the commercial, which
is when the narrator said for a few seconds “GEICO COULD SAVE YOU 15% OR MORE
ON CAR INSURANCE”. If their purpose was to inform us about the insurance
company they would have been very ineffective.
But
rather, the commercial was a bit effective at somewhat effective at making us
laugh and ensuring we remember the commercial. It is easier to associate a
company with something positive when their commercials had made you laugh.
Conc.
In conclusion,
the
Insurance company tries to use comedy and a relevant or recent event to
advertise their company. In a sense, the commercial isn’t intended to inform us
of their policies but rather to keep their company fresh in our minds. The
company is somewhat effective at fulfilling their purpose. Geico does a great
job of using humor and current events to ensure the audience doesn’t
change the channel.
